Overnight Yacht Charter in Miami: Cost, Rules and Stays
Mariam Revuelta

An overnight yacht charter in Miami lets you sleep aboard after a day on the water or spend the whole stay at a marina. The yacht, sleeping arrangements, cruising time, and overnight location determine what your booking includes and what it costs.
At Book My Boat, our overnight stays include docked accommodation and options to add a captained cruise. We match the boat to your group and outline sleeping capacity, location, crew arrangements, and charges before you book. An overnight reservation does not automatically include continuous cruising or permission to anchor anywhere in Biscayne Bay.
Key Takeaways
We offer overnight accommodation and cruise-and-stay options, with a quote based on your yacht and dates.
Approved passenger capacity and available sleeping berths are separate limits.
Listed parts of Biscayne Bay restrict anchoring between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise.
Your quote separates included services from additional dockage, cruising, provisions, and other charges.
Book early for busy dates, especially if you need particular cabins, a marina location, or an event itinerary.
What an Overnight Yacht Charter Is (and How It Differs From a Day Charter)
An overnight charter includes accommodation aboard the vessel. A day charter gives you a scheduled period on the water without a night aboard. Check-in and check-out times depend on the specific reservation; a day booking doesn't always end at sunset, and an overnight booking doesn't always begin in the afternoon.
For a docked stay, the marina is your base. A cruise-and-stay booking adds time underway before returning to the agreed overnight location. We identify the accommodation and cruising portions separately so you know whether you are booking a night aboard, a trip on the water, or both.
For hourly trips, our Miami yacht rental cost guide explains the pricing structure. For several nights with a longer route, our weekly yacht charter guide covers the additional planning involved.
How Much an Overnight Yacht Charter Costs in Miami
Our overnight accommodation page advertises the following category starting prices. These are examples of accommodation tiers, not quotes for a particular vessel or a maximum price. True houseboats are accommodation-focused vessels and should not be confused with cruising yachts.
Overnight accommodation category | Advertised starting price per night |
|---|---|
Boutique cruiser | From $1,200 |
True houseboat | From $1,800 |
Luxury yacht | From $2,500 |
Mega yacht | From $6,000 |
Browse our overnight stays and request a quote for your dates. Availability, the chosen vessel, and the services included determine the final price.
Your quote should make the full cost easy to follow:
Cost item | How it affects the booking |
|---|---|
Accommodation | The agreed nightly charge and number of nights |
Cruising and fuel | Any separately priced time underway and fuel allowance |
Captain and crew | Included staffing and any separately charged services |
Dockage | Included berth costs or a separate marina charge |
Food and drinks | Your provisions, catering, or chef service |
Taxes and booking fees | Applicable charges shown in the booking breakdown |
Gratuity | The arrangement stated for the booking |
An expense already included in the quote should not be added again. Tax treatment and fee arrangements can differ, so the total matters more than the headline nightly price. Our inclusion guide explains how to read those.
APA and How Overnight Expenses Are Settled
An advance provisioning allowance, or APA, is a prepaid budget for agreed running expenses. Where a charter uses one, it may cover items such as fuel, food, and dockage. It is different from the accommodation payment and from a refundable damage deposit.
We explain whether the reservation uses an allowance, separately billed expenses, or an inclusive package. The agreement sets the allowance amount, how spending is recorded, how unused funds are settled, and what happens if expenses exceed the budget. There is no single APA percentage that should be applied to every overnight booking.
Where You Can Legally Sleep Aboard: Anchorage vs Marina
A marina slip, mooring, and anchorage have different permissions and restrictions. An overnight location must suit the vessel and comply with the rules for that particular area. Being outside a restricted anchoring zone does not, by itself, establish permission to stay.
We plan the overnight location as part of the booking rather than leaving you to choose an unverified anchorage. A marina stay also requires permission for the intended use and available space.
Biscayne Bay Anchoring Limits
Florida Statute 327.4108 prohibits anchoring in specified areas between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise, subject to statutory exceptions. Miami-Dade locations include Sunset Lake, several waterways between Palm Island and neighboring islands, and the Sunset Islands area.
The restrictions expanded in 2025, so older anchorage lists can be incomplete. The current statute also distinguishes these nighttime restrictions from county-created areas with separate time limits. A daytime sightseeing stop should not be treated as an approved overnight anchorage.
Section 327.60 allows certain local anchoring regulations, including specified repeated overnight anchoring exceeding 30 days within six months in qualifying counties. This concerns longer-term use; it does not replace the location restrictions for a single-night stay.
Marina Dockage Costs
Dockage may be included in the accommodation price or charged separately. A berth rate can depend on vessel length, dates, utilities, and the marina's billing rules. Mooring charges can follow a different structure from slip charges.
The City of Miami marina rate sheet is the reference for municipal pricing. Your booking breakdown identifies the charge applicable to your stay; a published rate does not guarantee a berth is available. Larger yachts also need suitable depth, berth dimensions, and access. Our mega yacht charter page introduces that category.
Biscayne National Park Rules
The park's Superintendent's Compendium prohibits anchoring in designated places, including Boca Chita and Elliott Key harbors, marked navigational channels, and the protected Legare Anchorage area. Adams Key is a day-use location, with nighttime docking restrictions.
Boca Chita Key and Elliott Key camping and docking information lists a $60 overnight fee in its published schedule. Availability is first come, first served, and quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Swimming is prohibited in boat harbors. Boca Chita's pet restriction includes docked vessels, with an exception for service animals.
Park stops require route, depth, vessel suitability, and applicable commercial permissions to be considered. They are not guaranteed additions to every overnight itinerary.
How Many Guests Can Sleep on an Overnight Charter
The approved passenger count tells you how many people the charter arrangement can carry. Sleeping berths tell you how many people can stay overnight. Cabin count alone answers neither question: a cabin may have a double bed, separate bunks, or space reserved for crew.
Under the relevant federal passenger-vessel rules, crewed uninspected vessels under 100 gross tons generally carry no more than six passengers for hire. Different arrangements and vessel classifications have different requirements. Six is not a universal limit for every yacht booking.
We match the overnight guest list to the selected vessel's approved operation and accommodation. Day visitors need to be counted separately where the reservation permits them. Our guide to choosing yacht size by guest count provides a starting point.
What Should You Confirm About Overnight Comfort?
We help establish the accommodation details before booking, including:
Beds: doubles, singles, bunks, and any convertible sleeping areas.
Bathrooms: private or shared access and shower arrangements.
Cooling and power: air conditioning and the power arrangement at the overnight location.
Storage: room for luggage without obstructing passageways.
A group that fits the passenger allowance may still need a different yacht for a comfortable night. Sharing preferences matter, especially for couples, families, or guests who need separate beds. Tell us about mobility needs when planning so we can discuss boarding access and the layout of the available boats.
Who Is On Board: Captain, Crew and Privacy
Docked accommodation and cruising involve different staffing arrangements. A licensed captain is required for the captained cruising portion. Some yachts also have additional crew, while a chef or other hospitality service may be a separately arranged addition.
We set out who remains aboard, whether crew uses separate accommodation, and which spaces are available to guests. A docked reservation should not automatically be understood as an entirely unstaffed yacht. Privacy depends on the actual layout and service arrangement.
Meals may involve permitted guest use of the galley, food delivered to the dock, or an arranged catering or chef service. Our captain guide explains the captain's role during a charter.
A Sample Overnight Itinerary on Biscayne Bay
For a cruise-and-stay booking, an afternoon on the bay followed by a marina night keeps the cruising and accommodation portions distinct:
Board at the agreed marina. Allow time for the safety briefing and cabin orientation.
Cruise to a suitable swimming stop. Nixon Sandbar is one option to consider alongside our sandbar guide, depending on conditions and departure point.
Enjoy the sunset underway. Return to the arranged slip for dinner and the overnight stay.
Have breakfast aboard. A morning swimming stop is possible only if separately included, suitable, and outside prohibited harbor areas.
A longer route can leave less time for swimming or dinner, and weather may require changes. Contact us to plan an overnight-capable vessel and a route that fits the booking period.
Overnight Charter vs Hotel vs Weekly Charter
Compare the full accommodation and activity budget rather than the advertised starting price alone. A hotel quote is usually per room; a private yacht quote concerns the vessel and its agreed services. A weekly booking offers more time aboard but does not automatically reduce the daily cost.
Option | Cost structure | Privacy and space | Itinerary |
|---|---|---|---|
Overnight yacht | Nightly accommodation plus excluded services | Reserved guest areas; crew arrangement varies | Docked stay or agreed cruising |
Hotel | Rooms, meals, and applicable property fees | Private room in a shared property | Land-based accommodation |
Weekly charter | Agreed charter period plus excluded expenses | Guest accommodation and onboard crew | Longer route or multiple overnight locations |
A hotel can be the less expensive option when you only need somewhere to sleep. A yacht may fit better when accommodation, time on the water, and private hosting are all part of the trip.
For December plans, our Miami yacht event calendar and Art Basel yacht charter guide help you plan around Art Week. Overnight availability and berth arrangements should be part of that plan.
Booking Checklist and Lead Time
Give us your preferred dates early if you need a particular layout or marina. Busy winter dates, holidays, and events can narrow your options. Our best time to rent guide explains seasonal considerations; we confirm availability for your actual dates.
The six details that shape an overnight quote are:
Dates and times: nights aboard, boarding, checkout, and cruising hours.
Guest list: overnight guests, any permitted visitors, and bed arrangements.
Payments: booking payment, balance schedule, and any damage deposit.
Cancellation terms: the vessel-price policy and separate operational fees.
Dockage and access: overnight location, berth costs, parking, and boarding.
Meals: provisions, galley access, delivery, catering, or chef service.
Our rental agreement guide explains the payment and liability terms. The step-by-step rental guide covers the booking process.
Under our cancellation policy, the Vessel Rental Price is fully refundable when canceled at least 24 hours before scheduled departure, unless the confirmation expressly states a different policy. Captain, crew, fuel, and other third-party operational fees are separate and become non-refundable upon confirmation unless the applicable provider authorizes a refund in writing.
Unsafe-weather decisions are a separate matter. The captain determines whether conditions are safe; the applicable booking terms determine the remedy. Our weather and cancellation guide explains that distinction.
Cooking, Smoking and Open-Flame Rules
Galley access does not automatically mean every cooking appliance is available for guest use. We provide the chosen yacht's meal-prep rules and any restrictions on smoking, vaping, candles, grills, or hookahs before the stay. Those rules also determine whether a meal needs crew support or an arranged chef.
For pets, permitted visitors, and food delivery, the vessel and overnight location both matter. Include these plans in the reservation so the appropriate permissions can be addressed before arrival. Service animals are welcome; ordinary pet arrangements follow the selected yacht's policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you sleep on a yacht in Miami?
Yes. Our overnight bookings provide accommodation aboard a suitable vessel, with the location and sleeping arrangements established for the reservation. Approved passenger capacity and beds are separate considerations. A stay may be docked or combined with cruising, while anchoring restrictions limit where a yacht can remain overnight.
Does an overnight yacht charter cruise through the night?
Not necessarily. An overnight booking means accommodation aboard, not continuous movement. A cruise-and-stay itinerary can return to a marina before bedtime. A night passage requires a suitable vessel, staffing, and an agreed route. We identify the cruising hours and overnight location when planning your booking.
How much does an overnight yacht rental cost in Miami?
Your quote depends on the vessel, dates, number of nights, and any cruising or hospitality services. The category starting prices above are advertised examples rather than a fixed range. We separate accommodation from excluded expenses so you can compare the total and understand what the reservation covers.
Where can you anchor overnight in Biscayne Bay?
Only at a location that meets the applicable anchoring and navigation rules and suits the vessel. Specified areas have nighttime restrictions, while park waters have additional closures. We plan the location for the itinerary; a scenic daytime stop does not automatically qualify as an overnight anchorage or marina alternative.
Is the captain included and do they stay on board?
The answer depends on whether you are booking docked accommodation, cruising, or both. Captained cruising includes the agreed captain service, with its charge and hours stated in the quote. We explain overnight staffing and crew accommodation separately, so you know who remains aboard and which areas are reserved for guests.
How far ahead should I book an overnight charter?
Start planning once your dates and guest list are settled, particularly for holidays, winter weekends, and event stays. The required lead time depends on available vessels and berth arrangements. We can check your dates and alternatives; a specific number of weeks does not guarantee that the yacht you want will remain available.
